Trio Nocturno is a young string trio based in Amsterdam, formed by passionate string players specializing in historical approach using period instruments and gut strings. (Bio in Dutch is available here)
Their core repertoire presently consists of Boccherini’s trio works for two violins and cello, works (Op.1, 4, 6, 34 and 54) had heretofore hardly been played or recorded compared to the composer’s other output ranging from Vienna, Paris to Madrid.
Apart from exploring Boccherini’s development, Trio Nocturno ranges in its repertoire from the early XVII till late XVIII century, from the origin of string consort such as M. Locke, H. Purcell, Golden-Age of Italian trio such as B.Marini, T.Merula, M.Uccelini, until Galant and pre-Classical style such as Telemann, C.P.E.Bach and Haydn.
Each of the trio’s members are studying in Conservatorium van Amsterdam, emphasizing historical performance studies with Sophie Gent, Viola de Hoog. They also receive frequent advice and lessons from Anna Bijlsma who is the specialist for Boccherini repertoire and most eminent string player.
